CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center hosted an enrollment event for eligible veterans.
It was Friday, February 8 from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau Community Clinic across from West Park Mall.
Medical support supervisor of Poplar Bluff, James Gebelhardt said the event allows them to educate veterans.
“We encourage all veterans to enroll for VA services, no matter if their enrolled to a private healthcare provider or they have private insurance,” he said. “The more veterans that we have enrolled into our services actually is based off of our funding so the more veterans we have enrolled the more services we can provide for our veterans.”
“This is a perfect time for Cape-area veterans to bring their DD-214s and enroll for VA health care services,” noted John J. Pershing VA Medical Center Director, Dr. Patricia Hall (US Army. Col., Ret.) “When the new clinic at Cape opens, it will add services and convenience for enrolled veterans, so this is a great opportunity to beat the rush.” Though eligible veterans may enroll for VA care any time, the February 8, event will also include a preliminary exam to get patients started in the system."
Hall stated, “The more patients we have, the more services we can offer.”
Hall explained that confusion often surrounds eligibility for VA services, with some veterans believing they are not eligible if they have health insurance or do not have combat experience.
