METROPOLIS, IL (KFVS) - One lane of Interstate 24 East was reduced to one lane following a crash involving a semi tractor-trailer.
The crash happened around 5:54 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23 in the eastbound lane at milepost 37, the Metropolis exit.
According to Illinois State Police, the driver of the semi, for an unknown reason, drove off the right side of the road and over-corrected when returning the vehicle to the roadway.
This caused the truck to overturn onto its passenger side into the right hand driving lane of I-24 East.
The right lane of the interstate was closed for approximately five hours in order for crews to remove the truck and clean-up the crash site.
The roadway is now open.
The investigation continues into the crash.
The driver, John Thomas Conway of Deforest, Wisconsin, was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and improper lane usage.
There is no word on if Conway was injured.
