Winter storm warning for several central and eastern counties until midnight tonight, Winter weather advisory for the rest of the Heartland, Wind advisory for several southern counties.
Rain and thunderstorms have been moving through during the evening hours and will continue through the mid morning. Some areas have received heavy rainfall resulting in water sitting on roads and low areas. High temperatures today will be in the early morning, temperatures will be decreasing through the day. Heading between 11AM to 1PM today is when we will see rain changing over to snow in our northwestern counties. This will occur because a cold front approaches the Heartland bringing cold arctic air with it. Models have been trending heavier on snow amounts further south in the Heartland. There will be a narrow band of heavier snow that could produce 6-8” of snow. The only question is….where will is develop? We will more than likely have to wait until the system moves in to find out. Winds will be very strong today with sustained winds in most areas between 20-25mph and gusts as high as 45mph at times. This will cause visibility issues with blowing snow. Ice will form on roads later today as temperatures will be dropping. It will be hard to treat the roads in time due to the heavy rain from last night and this morning.
