Driver charged after leading police on chase from Cape Girardeau to Oak Ridge

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Two people are in custody after leading police on a chase from Cape Girardeau to Oak Ridge, Missouri on Tuesday, Jan. 15.

One person, Curtis D. Lailer, 31, of Jackson, Mo. faces felony resisting a lawful stop, according to Sgt. Rick Schmidt with the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

Sgt. Rick Schmidt with the Cape Girardeau Police Department said officers tried to pull over a vehicle with two people inside at the intersection of William and Sprigg Streets at 9:53 p.m.

The driver did not stop and headed north on Highway 177.

Schmidt said Cape Girardeau police officers and troopers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol followed the driver until they stopped at Hwy. B in Oak Ridge just past Oak Ridge High School.

The driver then got out of the vehicle and led police on a foot pursuit, while the passenger remained in the vehicle.

Schmidt said officers were able to take the driver and the person traveling into custody just before 10:30 p.m.

The driver had outstanding warrants according to Schmidt, one from Bollinger County for dangerous drugs and another for a probation violation.

The passenger of the vehicle was released at the scene.
