MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Two men were taken to a hospital after being hit by a car while assisting a crash victim on an ice covered bridge in western Kentucky.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office, it happned at 11:41 a.m. on Friday, January 11 in the 6000 block of US 60.

Deputies were dispatched for a one-vehcile crash but learned of a second one while there.

That’s when they learned two pedestrians helping with the first crash were struck by a vehicle that lost control on the bridge as well.

A 31-year-old Paducah, Ky. woman, Kayla Champion, was westbound when her car lost control on the ice.

Her car hit 47-year-old Kenneth Poloski of Kevil, Ky. and 54-year-old Richard Merrill of Metropolis, Illinois.

Both men were thrown over a guard rail and down an embankment. They were taken to an area hospital with injuries.

The woman’s car also hit another car that was parked in the emergency lane. The occupants of that car were helping with the first crash as well.

Champion was not injured. She was arrested on an unrelated county warrant.
