West Frankfort, IL man freed from tractor trailer in I-57 crash

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - The northbound lanes of Interstate 57 were briefly shutdown in Williamson County, Illinois after a multiple-vehicle crash.

The crash happened around 10:07 a.m. at mile-post 59, which is the Johnston City exit on Wednesday, Jan. 9.

According to Illinois State Police, a tractor trailer was traveling north on I-57 when another vehicle failed to reduce its speed and struck the tractor trailer.

The truck came to a rest blocking northbound lanes with the driver, 20-year-old Dylan R. Fuene of West Frankfort, entrapped within the vehicle.

Fuene had to be extricated from the vehicle.

He was flown via helicopter to an area hospital with major injuries.

I-57 was closed for approximately 1.5 hours for scene investigation and clean-up.
