Memphis man facing multiple charges after chase from TN to Murray, KY

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - The Calloway County, Kentucky Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, January 7, that they were in a vehicle pursuit.

It was on US Hwy. 641 entering Calloway County from Tennessee around 10: 52 a.m.

Henry County stopped their pursuit as they entered the city limits of Hazel. Ky.

Calloway County deputies met the suspect vehicle travelling northbound just south of Murray near the Brandon Bottoms on US Hwy. 641 South.

The suspect, Vencie E. Bell, Jr. of Memphis, Tenn., tried to pass another northbound vehicle he almost collided with Calloway County Sheriff Sam Steger head-on.

Bell refused to stop and a vehicle pursuit began. He turned onto Peggy Ann Dr. in Murray and continued to lead sheriff’s department units down several streets in that area.

Bell eventually drove into a yard on Kirkwood Dr. where he got out of his vehicle and ran.

Shortly thereafter, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle seen in the area. It was learned that the driver of this vehicle was asked by Bell to come pick him up.

Deputies, with the assistance of the Murray Police Department and Kentucky State Police, then began a house to house search for Bell.

He was found in the 1300 block of Peggy Ann Dr. by a Murray Police Department officer and was taken into custody by the sheriff.

Vencie E. Bell, Jr. is charged with the following: Wanton Endangerment - 1st Degree Police Officer – 2 Counts; Fleeing or Evading Police - 1st Degree – Motor Vehicle; Fleeing or Evading Police - 2nd Degree – On Foot; Giving Officer False Identifying Information; Reckless Driving; Operating on a Suspended Operator’s License; Speeding 26mph or Greater in a Restricted Zone; Disregarding a Stop Sign – 5 Counts.
