MANCHESTER, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky woman has been arrested in the death of a baby found inside a trash bag.

News outlets report 21-year-old Amber L. Bowling was charged with murder in the death of the baby, who was found inside the trash bag outside a Clay County apartment building.

Bowling told police she gave birth Sunday and put the crying baby in a trash bag before throwing the bag over an upstairs banister. A resident of the apartment complex spotted the bag and police were called Tuesday.

A preliminary autopsy report says the baby died from blunt force trauma to the head and chest. County Coroner Danny Finley says the baby apparently had been outside in the bag for hours.

It’s unclear if Bowling has a lawyer who could comment.
