Man charged with 2nd degree murder after alleged assault in Steele, MO

STEELE, MO (KFVS) - A Holland, Missouri man is facing second degree murder charge after a man died from an alleged assault in Steele, Missouri.

Mark Crocker, 32, of Holland, is facing the second degree murder charge, according to Steele Police Chief Billy Joe Stanfield. Crocker turned himself in at the Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Office on Oct. 25. He was released after posting $100,000 cash or surety bond.

According to Steele Police Chief Stanfield, 43-year-old Jason Lee Mayfield was airlifted to a Memphis hospital on the evening of September 28. He said Mayfield was injured in an alleged assault.

On October 11, Mayfield died from his injuries at the hospital.

The Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol are investigating.
